The Islamic Broadcasting Communication Study Program, Faculty of Da'wah and Communication, Uin Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta held a briefing on journalistic production practicum for 2020 students on Friday (07/10/2022). This online activity presented presenters Bramma Aji Putra, public relations of the DIY Ministry of Religion, and Widya Resti Oktaviana, journalist of Dream.co.id.
According to Kaprodi KPI UIN Sunan Kalijaga, Nanang Mizwar Hasyim, a journalist does not only need to be able to write an event. A journalist must also be able to express the event in depth and educate their readers.
"A journalist does not only have to produce works, but they are able to write depth of content, which provides informative messages and also provides educational messages," he said when giving the opening remarks of the event.
The first material presented by Widya was about Investigative Journalism, that what investigative journalists do is not only taking notes, recording, writing news but recording interviews, checking archives, being skeptical and digging deeper into the news.
Widya also took a quote from Gene Robert, Investigative Journalism is not merely to trap politicians but rather to dig deeper into the facts that are happening and its purpose is to help readers understand what is really happening.
"Gene Robert thinks that investigative journalism is not solely for grasping politicians, maybe we will think about this investigative journalism to trap the powers or politicians, but no, this investigative journalism is to dig into the surface of the case, what the facts are like," he said.
And the second material presented by Bramma about Productive Writing Mass Media, expressed that why we have to write and write is not a matter of talent but a matter of will and ability that must be trained continuously.
Participants were so enthusiastic in following the debriefing of this production practicum, not a few participants asked questions and also discussed with the speakers.
